   Orange has an email tidy-up
Orange, formerly Wanadoo and before that Freeserve has mounted a cleanup operation of its pay-as-you-go dial-up accounts.

Before once you stopped using their services, provided you made a connection atleast once in 90 days your email account was preserved. Earlier this year that was extended to 260 days.

However due to changes to policies access to email is not denied when the dial-up account is suspended, so users are not made aware their account is in danger of deletion. They simpyl discover their emails are no more. Over at "orangeproblems.co.uk"m any hundreds of users have reported the loss of emails going back for years. On contacting Orange they are advised their lost emails are unrecoverable.

This is a good example of why its best to not reply on a "free" email address from an ISP and to instead register your own domain name - which you can then move with you as you switch ISP`s.
